Transfers on hold until Punjab CM returns

LAHORE: Transfers are on hold until Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi returns from London, where he will be attending his Monnis Elahi’s wedding on October 9, government sources told Daily Times on Friday.

Sources said postings and transfers had to be approved and signed by Elahi and would take place after his return. They said, “The principal finance secretary’s seat will be filled when trainees finish their course at the Administrative Staff College.” They added that Sami Saeed was likely to become the next finance secretary.

Also, the Civil Secretariat was abuzz with Hassan Wassem Afzal’s posting as the additional chief secretary. Sources said the new chief secretary favoured Afzal and his promotion was in line with his salary upgrade to BS-21.

“Afzal is an intelligent officer and also well-connected. He developed good links with the Accountability Bureau while he was Home secretary,” said a senior bureaucrat.
