ITF Junior Tennis Championship: Jitin, Vijit, Gursher and Yasir breeze into semi-finals

KARACHI: Jitin Bishnoi, Vijit Seghal, Gursher Harika and Yasir Khan breezed into the ITF Junior Tennis Championship boys singles semi-finals after winning their quarter-finals at the Karachi Gymkhana hard courts on Thursday.

Inyat Khosla and Alisha Talwar set-up an all-India girls singles final after easy victories in the semi-finals. Inyat beat Amita Arudpragsam of Sri Lanka while Alisha beat Su Yee Chit of Myanmar. Su conceded the match in the first set due to injury.

Pakistan’s Yasir created a minor stir when he toppled his compatriot Usman Ejaz in three sets to snatch a pot in the semi-final. Karachi-born Yasir won the first set but Usman of Quetta bounced back into the match by grabbing the second on a tie-break. However, Yasir demonstrated stamina and skill to outplay Ejaz to notch-up an exciting 6-2, 6-7 (6-1), 6-1 victory. Second seed Jitin Bishnoi of India overpowered Peerakit Siribuntwon of Thailand after a tough fight. Third seed Vijit Seghal of India looked in commanding touch when he thrashed Neil Rajpal.
