Army retain national boxing crown

LAHORE: Defending champions Pakistan Army retained the 30th National Boxing Championship title with ten medals at Atique Stadium here on Monday evening.

Army scooped 4 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals to collect 20 points in the four-day grand competition which was participated by a dozen teams including provinces and services and departments.

Pakistan Navy and WAPDA were equal at points’ table with 12 points each but Navy secured second place grabbing three silver medals. Navy claimed 2 gold and 3 silvers. WAPDA clinched 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Karachi port Trust (KPT) earned fourth place with 11 points after winning 2 silver and 5 bronze medals. Pakistan Air Force (PAF) got the fifth place with 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. Punjab were disappointing in the tournament after finishing at 10th place.

48 kgs flyweight: Muhammad Wasim (WAPDA) beat Mushtaq Hussain (Balochistan)

51kgs lightfly weight: Nauman Karim (Army) beat Syed Jawad Ali (Navy)

54kgs bantamweight: Abid Jan (KESC) beat Muhamad Pervaiz (Navy)

57kgs featherweight: Sohail Baloch (PAF) beat Naushad Fateh (KPT)

60kgs lightweight: Sajid Raja (PAF) beat Hayatullah (Wapda) on points 26-20

64kgs lightwelterweight: Faisal Karim (Army) beat Jan Muhammad (KPT)

69kgs welterweight: Allah Bux (Navy) beat Zubair Hussain (KESC)

75kgs middlewight: Ejaz Mahmood (Navy) beat Saeed Ahmed (Army)

81kgs lightheavyweight: Tanveer Shaukat (Army) beat Ibne Raza (Navy)

91kgs heavyweight: Shaukat Ali (Army) beat Saifullah Niazi (WAPDA)

91-plus kgs super-heavyweight: Muzaffar Iqbal (WAPDA) beat Abdul Razzak (Army)
