Zarate outpoints Todaka in world boxing title bouts

SAITAMA (Japan): Julio Zarate of Mexico pounded out a split decision victory over Hideki Todaka to complete a triple humiliation of three Japanese boxers in a series of world boxing title matches on Saturday.

Zarate showed nimble footwork, moved much quicker and fought more aggressively, always pushing forward to shut out a counter-attack to become the new World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight interim champion.

Earlier in the day, Oscar Larios of Mexico, who suffered a broken jaw when he defeated Shigeru Nakazato in April last year, won a re-match against him also by a 3-0 decision to defend his WBC super bantamweight title. —AFP
