Mega projects in Balochistan benefiting people, says Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: Mega development projects in Balochistan including the recently constructed Mekran Coastal Highway and the under construction Mirani Dam, Gwadar Deep Sea Port and Kacchi Canal were in the interest of the country and the Balochi people, said President General Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday.

Chairing a meeting at the Presidency, the president said these projects were already helping the people through increasing employment, reducing poverty and providing modern facilities. The meeting also reviewed the provincial law and order situation and the progress of various development projects. The president also highlighted the federal government’s assistance towards improving watercourses, health, education and other social programmes.

The Balochistan governor and chief minister gave a detailed presentation about the various initiatives being taken by the provincial government to ensure law and order, progress on development projects and other measures to develop the province.

Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and secretary general Mushahid Hussain Sayed briefed the meeting about the working of the parliamentary committee on Balochistan. app
