Wana operation will continue: Sherpao

ISLAMABAD: The military operation in the tribal areas will continue till foreign terrorists had been eradicated, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said on Wednesday.

Talking to journalists during a ceremony celebrating the 77th birthday of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, he said law and order in the country was satisfactory and a number of steps were being taken to improve law enforcement agencies. He said the situation in the tribal areas was being normalised and the inhabitants were now moving about in the areas without fear.

The minister said that the number of paramilitary forces patrolling the porous border with Afghanistan had been increased.

Addressing to the gathering, Sherpao also said that party workers were the real asset of the party and party leaders would try their best to meet the expectations of party workers. He said that the party leadership would follow the principles of ZA Bhutto, founder of the Pakistan People’s Party.

Rao Sikandar Iqbal, the defence minister and chairman of Pakistan People’s Party, said the government was determined to strengthen democratic institutions. He said President Musharraf’s decision not to shed his uniform was necessary, adding that his uniform was not really an issue and some political leaders were trying to exploit the situation.

He claimed that a number of political figures throughout the country would join PPP very soon. Kashmir affairs minister, Faisal Saleh Hayat, science and technology minister, Nouraiz Shakoor, and other local leaders were present at the occasion. staff report
