Amir of Hunza meets Pervaiz and Maqbool
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced on Wednesday annual scholarships in engineering, medicine and general education for deserving students from the Northern Areas.
Talking to Gazanfar Ali Khan, the Amir of Hunza, at Chief Minister’s House Elahi said that efforts were being taken to promote tourism in the Northern Areas which would lead to local progress and prosperity. GM Sikandar, the principal secretary to Elahi, also attended the meeting.
Khan said that a comprehensive programme was needed to solve the people’s problems. He said that Hunza’s fruit production was important for the economy and efforts were being made to export them.
Earlier, Khan and his wife met with Khalid Maqbool, the governor of Punjab, at Governor House. Maqbool said that General Musharraf’s government was committed to develop all of Pakistan. He said that development projects would be completed through coordination with all provinces, AJK and the Northern Areas. Khan told Maqbool that the Northern Areas were playing a dynamic role in strengthening Pakistan’s ties with China.
