Power failure in major sub divisions

LAHORE: The people of Lahore suffered on Sunday because of power failure due to an excess load on the transmission system and kite flying.

The electricity supply was suspended in major sub divisions including the Walled City, Badian Road, Ferozpur Road, Muslim Town, Mozang, Johar Town, Sadar, Faisal town, Shadman, Misri Shah, Shadbagh, Railway station and Ghari Shahu, Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) officials told Daily Times.

Walled City sub divisions Mochi, Akbri and Lohari Gate had to suffer the most because of the power failure since Saturday evening, the officials said. The LESCO distribution system recorded around 600 minor and 40 major power failures that inconvenienced public on Sunday, they added.

An official said that low voltage and fluctuations were because of the electricity transmission system’s incapacity to bear an excess load. The company installed 1,696 new transformers to improve its performance, the official said, adding that the LESCO would have to increase its grid stations for better results.

Kite-flying with metallic wires has become a menace for the city and the LESCO authorities, district government and police have not been able to do much in this regard.

The district government banned kite-flying in the city, but the Punjab government took this issue in its hands and therefore provincial government was responsible for the matter, said a district government official. khawaja naseer
