‘Police should interrogate Noel Cyprian’

LAHORE: The police did not interrogate former Federal Minister Derrick Cyprian’s elder brother Noel while investigating Derrick’s murder, alleged his ex-wife Fozia Haroon during a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Sunday.

Claiming to be Derrick’s widow, Fozia said the former minister transferred a large part of his property, worth Rs 150 million, to Noel’s daughter Merle who lives in Canada. She insisted that Noel be interrogated, however she did not accuse him of any wrongdoing.

Asked how she could claim to be Derrick’s widow viewing that he divorced her 15 years ago, Fozia said, “Derrick did not divorce me because there is no concept of divorce in Christianity,” adding that Derrick did not wed Venus Bhatti for the same reason. She said that she had written to the pope in this regard and received a positive response. She added that unidentified people were threatening her and her daughters Hina and Anopa for pursuing Derrick’s murder.

The self-claimed widow said murder accused Inspector Ali Imran Niazi and former Union Bank manager Hamayun Nabeel were influential people and had indirectly forced her to stop pursuing the case. She alleged that Nabeel’s father was employed by Cathedral-I and was sacked because of embezzlement charges. She added that she, along with her daughters, would leave the country if authorities did not give them justice. Fozia said she had submitted an application for security personnel with City Police Chief Tariq Saleem Doggar and he had made due arrangements in this regard. staff report
