Americans put on alert in Uzbekistan
WASHINGTON: The United States on Tuesday put its citizens in Uzbekistan on alert for more terrorist attacks after a series of suicide bombings late last week targeted the US and Israeli embassies.
“Although we have no information to suggest that additional attacks will occur, the possibility cannot be discounted at this time,” the State Department said in a travel warning.
“Because of these attacks, we advise all American citizens to be on the highest alert for their safety and security. We also suggest that Americans avoid large crowds and public places where Westerners generally congregate in large numbers.” Uzbekistan became a key ally of the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks, opening up its main military base to US troops fighting in Afghanistan. afp
