Abida says Benazir has the right to return to Pakistan

WASHINGTON: Benazir Bhutto has the right to return to Pakistan because she is a citizen. She is also the best educated of the country’s political leaders and thus has the capacity to lead, Syeda Abida Hussain said here Tuesday. She was answering questions after a presentation at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Asked about her political plans and those of her husband Syed Fakhar Imam, following their meetings in London with Ms Bhutto, Ms Hussain replied that while they were not joining the party, they would fully cooperate with the political forces engaged in the struggle to restore legitimate government to Pakistan. She said, “I trust that Benazir would avoid the errors made in the past.” She was confident that if Ms Bhutto returns to Pakistan, she would “energise and embolden the political community and bring about real enlightened moderation.” Ms Hussain said the sooner fresh elections are held the better for the nation and the state. khalid hasan
