District government recommends action against ‘seductive dancers’

LAHORE: A monitoring team of the Lahore district government raided various theatres on Monday and Tuesday nights and asked the authorities to take action against stage dancers, Nargis, Nadia, Naina, Iram Tahir and Amira Mumtaz for performing vulgar or unscripted dances, city government sources told Daily Times on Wednesday. The sources said District Coordination Officer Khalid Sultan would forward the case to the Home Department with recommendations that the dancers be punished. The sources said that Nadia had performed a “sensual” dance in a stage play titled Munda Shahr Lahore Da at the Mehfil Theatre. Mina Naz performed an out of scrip dhamal that was full of “proactive gestures” in the same play. Neither dance nor dhamal had been approved by the censor panel. In another play titled Mochi Darwaza at the Al-Falah Theatre, Naina reportedly performed “ an aggressive and vulgar” dance, while Nari did a number that was not in the script. A group dance performed by Nari, Naina, Zamurd Khan, Hassan Murad, Mumtaz Zareef and others was “seductive and provocative”, said the sources At the Crown Theatre, in a play titled Dulhen MBBS, a group dance performed by Nasim Vicki and Iram Tahir was not scripted. Tariq Teddy cracked vulgar jokes that were not in the script, the sources said. In a stage show entitled Miss Wrong Call at the Tamaseel Theatre, Deedar performed two slow dances which were not in the script, said the sources. At the Naz Theatre, in Chalti Ka Naam Gari, Nargis performed an “aggressive, and vulgar dance in a short dress”. The sources said a group dance was also performed which was not in the script. A dance by Amira Mumtaz in the play was not vulgar but it was not in the script either. shoaib ahmed
