Leaking water lines remain unattended

KARACHI: A water supply line has been leaking for several days at a main reservoir of the water and sanitation department (W&S) of the city government at Hasan Square, close to the department’s head office.

This has resulted in the waste of million of gallons of water, but the authorities concerned have done nothing to plug the leakage.

Water from the Hasan Square reservoir is supplied to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Society areas. All these localities are densely populated. Another pipeline burst in Jacob Lines several days ago. It remains unattended, so a large quantity of water is being wasted. Deploring the attitude of the water and sanitation department of the city government, residents of the affected areas said in the hot weather when many areas of the city had been experiencing an acute shortage of water, such a waste of water had exposed the inefficiency of the department.
