Musharraf for ‘meaningful dialogue’ with New Delhi
MANSAR CAMP: President Pervez Musharraf here on Friday paid tribute to martyrs of the armed forces and pledged to strengthen Pakistan’s economy. “Pakistan has an impregnable defence and is taking great strides in stabilising its economy,” Mr Musharraf told a gathering of army officers here during the colonel commandant’s induction ceremony at the Azad Kashmir Regimental Centre.
The president told the participants: “A vibrant economy and a strong defence are the key elements for security, peace and development of any country. By the grace of Allah, Pakistan, which already has an impregnable defence, is also taking a giant step in strengthening the economy.” Mr Musharraf stated that the “unswerving faith in Allah, professionalism, devotion to duty” complemented with adequate weaponry and equipment were the reasons for the qualitative edge Pakistan’s Armed Forces had shown against India during the recent crisis. However, he made it clear that Pakistan had always sought a peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues, including that of Kashmir, “through a meaningful dialogue” that “should, on no account, be misinterpreted as a sign of weakness”. —APP
