Nazims protest appointment of administrators
ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of nazims, naib nazims and councillors staged a protest in front of Parliament House on Friday against the imminent decision to appoint administrators to districts before local body elections.
The demonstrators held placards and chanted slogans against the impending decision. They said the bureaucracy wanted to destabilise the devolution system and were doing so by trying to get administrators appointed to thedistricts. They said they feared the administrators would ruin development work that they had initiated in their constituencies.
The protestors demanded that President Pervez Musharraf intervene in the matter stop the appointment of administrators. Such a step, they said, would run contrary to the devolution policies of the present government. The demonstrators then thronged outside the national library and made speeches before dispersing quietly. A large police contingent was deployed around Parliament House. staff report
