Five-member body formed to review NAs situation: Memon

ISLAMABAD: A five-member committee has been formed to review the prevailing situation in the Northern Areas (NAs), Nisar Memon, chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Northern Areas committee, said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, he said that the committee would be headed by Haji Fida Muhammad Shad, parliamentary leader in the Northern Areas Legislative Council, and all the prominent leaders of different religious sects had been included in the committee.
He said the first meeting of the committee would be held on February 8 and would present its recommendations on the next day to concerned authorities to normalise the situation in the region.
Replying to a question, he said the committee would point out loopholes in the administration so that they could be addressed.
He said the members of the committee would visit the residences of the people who lost their lives during the recent violence in Gilgit. Memon said the committee would also evaluate the loss of life and property and the affected would be compensated adequately by the government, he added. To another query, he asserted that foreign involvement in the violence in Northern Areas could not be ruled out. He said some troublemakers were trying to fuel sectarianism in the country. He claimed that the law-enforcement agencies would soon apprehend the guilty.
