CM urges party workers to demonstrate spirit of unity

* Calls for efforts to sweep local council elections

LAHORE: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the Pakistan Muslim League’s Punjab head and the provincial chief minister, said on Friday vowed to add new spirit in the party by gearing up its activities to ensure sweeping success in the upcoming local council elections.

Addressing party workers at the residence of Mian Amer Mahmood, the Lahore district nazim, Elahi urged party workers to come up with renewed vigour and zeal to strengthen the party at all levels. He said that Lahore would become the PML’s fortress in the local elections.

Muhammad Basharat Raja, the Punjab law minister, Farooq Amjad Mir, the PML candidate contesting by-election from NA 127, the district nazim and others were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister urged the workers to demonstrate spirit of unity. He pointed out that development work had already been initiated in various parts of Punjab to provide better civic amenities to people. He stressed the need to consolidate various units of the party including students, lawyers, women, labour, farmers, minorities and traders wings, saying they were party’s driving force.

Elahi promised an incentive package for PML workers and called them the backbone of the party. He said that party’s enrolment drive had begun all over the country from Friday. He said although the local council elections would be on a non-party basis, the opposition would unite with an aim to defeat the PML. He urged the workers to campaign in favour of PML Mir for bye-election from NA 127.

Earlier, Elahi hoisted the national flag at the district nazim’s premises. Later, talking to journalists about Balochistan situation, Elahi said elements involved in terrorist activities would be dealt with sternly. He said a parliamentary committee had been formed to resolve the Balochistan crisis. app

LAHORE: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the Punjab chief minister and PML Punjab president, inaugurated the membership campaign of PML in Punjab by filling a membership form of the party at PML House on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he said PML office bearers and workers were playing active role in organising and reactivating the party and they would be given importance on government and political level. He directed officials to make party’s membership process more effective to address people’s problems. app
