Canada will increase financial aid for tsunami relief effort
OTTAWA: The Canadian government will double its financial contribution from CD$ 40 million to at least CD$80 million for the international relief effort in response to the disaster caused by the earthquake and tsunami that swept through many countries in South and Southeast Asia. This was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin at a press conference. The prime minister said the funds would be provided to organisations, working to provide immediate assistance, including proper sanitation and potable water, health care and medicines, shelter, food, child protection, trauma counselling, and family reunification. pr
