5 US congressmen arriving today
New York: Five US parliamentarians flew by Pakistan International Airlines from New York to Pakistan on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali’s invitation.
The group of fifteen, the parliamentarians along with their wives and staff, will reach Lahore on Monday morning because the flight was delayed for four hours. The congressmen will meet with Prime Minister Jamali on January 8. They will visit Muzzaffarabad and Kashmir before proceeding to India but they will not visit occupied Kashmir. Shaukat Harroon, consul general to New York, received Congressman Joseph R Pitts and Congressman William Todd Akin at LaGuardia international Airport in New York, and Pakistan officials escorted them to JFK Airport. All guests were seated at the VIP lounge at JFK.
Mr Haroon had to rush to New Jersey to see Pakistan’s former ambassador Basit Haqani in Newark City Hospital who is in a critical condition after his heart bypass surgery. —NNI
