Hafeez Sheikh calls for ECO, SAARC cooperation
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Investment and Privatisation Abdul Hafeez Sheikh on Sunday called for cooperation between the Central Asian Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) nations and the members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). He said on the sidelines of the 12th SAARC summit, the peoples and countries in Central and South Asia enjoyed historical bonds which could serve their enhanced cooperation.
“Both the ECO and SAARC member states can cooperate in economic and social fields for the prosperity of the region,” he said. “Both regional organisations have similar objectives, and that they should work together for further cooperation in economic, social and cultural fields. Regarding the expansion of SAARC countries, the minister said that there was such a possibility. —NNI
