SAARC summit to be held in Bangladesh
DHAKA: The next summit of the leaders of seven South Asian countries including India and Pakistan will be held in Dhaka from January 9 to 11, officials said on Friday.
The agenda for the 13th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be finalised at a meeting of foreign secretaries from January 5 to 6, said Zahirul Haque, external publicity director of the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry.
SAARC, which was founded in 1985 in Dhaka, groups Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The process initiated at the summit will culminate on Sunday in New Delhi in the first talks in three years between the Pakistani and Indian foreign ministers. The summit in Islamabad had been delayed by a year as Pakistan and India seemed on the verge of war. afp
