Justice Muzammal wants reasons why he was not confirmed

LAHORE: Justice Muzammal Khan, who was not confirmed but was given one-year extension as additional judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC), said that every individual had a right to know the reasons behind an adverse order passed against him.

Talking to reporters after the oath taking ceremony of four LHC judges who were appointed with him last year and President General Pervez Musharraf confirmed them on Thursday, Justice Khan said he did not expect that he would not be confirmed because he had performed his duties diligently and honestly and was not told why he had not been confirmed. He said when he heard the news that his services were only being extended and not confirmed, he decided not to continue as a judge of the LHC thinking he might not merit confirmation. However, on the persuasion of the LHC chief justice, judges and bar officials he changed his decision and decided to continue, said Justice Khan.

Justice Khan had been the president of the Lahore High Court Bar Association and was respected by lawyers.
