Shias protest suicide attack at Bari Imam
ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of Shia protestors on Friday staged a demonstration against the suicide attack at Bari Imam shrine.
The demonstration was organised by the Pakistan Islami Tehreek. The protest rally holding placards and banners started from markazi imambargah and ended at China Chowk. Addressing the demonstrators, MNA Muhammad Aslam said criminals were targeting places of worship.
He alleged that there was harmony among religious parties but the government was trying to create rifts. It was the government’s responsibility to protect people’s lives but it had failed in this regard, he added.
Pakistan Islami Tehreek central leader Allama Jaleel Naqvi condemned the suicide attacks at Bari Imam and in Karachi. He said no religion endorsed suicide attacks, adding that provocative speeches by religious leaders of various sects was the cause of sectarian violence. Such leaders needed to be dealt with seriously, he said. He said anti-Muslim individuals wanted to exploit the situation by persuading innocent people to carry out suicide attacks. staff report
