Opp threatens PA speaker with no-confidence

LAHORE: Members of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly will file a no confidence motion against Speaker Chaudhry Muhammad Afzal Sahi if he does not forward the references against defecting legislators to the Election Commission chief, said opposition leader Qasim Zia.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Zia said that in the last three years, at least six members from the opposition benches (four from the PML-N, one from the PPPP and one from the MMA) joined the treasury benches. “References against the defecting members were sent to speaker to have them disqualified, but he did not send these references to the Election Commission deliberately. Zia said that if the speaker did not forward the references before the budget session, the opposition would move a no confidence motion against him. He said that the opposition legislators would meet a day before the upcoming assembly session to sign the motion. staff report
