PCHR discusses Freedom of Info Act today

ISLAMABAD: The newly-constituted sub-committee of Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) will meet in the federal capital today (Tuesday) to look into the Freedom of Information Act 2002.
The committee will analyse the act and formulate strategies for enforcing it. The committee consists of parliamentarians and civil society members. Finance Division Parliamentary Secretary Umar Ayub Khan will head the committee. Aneesa Zeb Khan, Mmeber of National Assembly (MNA) Haroon Qaiser, MNA Akhtar Kanju and PCHR Chief Coordinator Shafique Chaudhry are the other members on the committee. Shafqat Munir from SDPI, Zafrullah Khan from Centre of Civic Education and Mukhtar Ahmed Khan of CRPC will represent civil society. The committee will examine whether the domestic freedom of information laws can be effectively used to access information related to international finance and trading institutions like the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and World Trade Organisation.
