Tribal chief held in new gang-rape case

KARACHI: City police arrested the head of a tribal council that allegedly hushed up the brutal gang rape of a woman, days after a lower court earlier set the man free, officials said on Tuesday. Marium Bano, 33, said a tribal council pardoned the alleged rapists on condition that they paid a fine and told her to remain silent, but she and her family refused to accept the judgment. “My life has been destroyed,” Bano said. The head of the council, Hussain Bux Chandio, was arrested a few weeks ago, but was then released by a magistrate. afp
