Committee on water resources wants large dams
By Khalid Mustafa
ISLAMABAD: Technical Committee on Water Resources (TCWR) Chairman ANG Abbasi on Tuesday handed over a report on future dams and water availability in Pakistan - which recommends the construction of large water reservoirs – to the Federal Water and Power Minister Liaquat Jatoi, a senior government official of the TCWR told Daily Times.
Abbasi has already submitted the report to the president and prime minister but it is so far being kept secret. However, according to Abbasi, the report has recommended big water reservoirs, as Pakistan has surplus water. The Sindh province had earlier maintained that there was no surplus water in Pakistan, and consequently no need of building reservoirs. However, TCWR confirmed that Pakistan had surplus water and large reservoirs needed to be made to cater to the irrigation and electricity requirements of the country.
