Police seize 11 ballots from councillor’s house
LAHORE: City police on Tuesday confiscated 11 empty ballot boxes from the house of Noor Jehan, a newly-elected lady councillor from union council-79 (unofficial result), in Mozang on Tuesday. Police registered a case against Ms Jehan and suspended Mozang police station’s house officer (SHO). Reportedly, Ms Jehan’s opponent Nighat Saeed alleged that she saw ballot boxes in Jehan’s house. Ms Saeed contacted the Mozang police station, but they refused to register a case. She gathered the other defeated candidates, their supporters and local residents. The mob surrounded the police station and chanted slogans against the police. Later, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Aamir Zulfiqar, SSP (Investigations) Chaudhry Shafqat Ahmad and Superintendent of Police (City Division) Dr Usman Anwar arrived at the scene. They ordered a raid on Ms Jehan’s house and confiscated 11 empty ballot boxes. Ms Saeed claimed the boxes were full of votes when she saw them. However, Ms Jehan alleged the winning nazim and naib-nazim candidates, Haji Tariq Feroz and Haji Zahid, had asked her to hide the boxes. SSP Zulfiqar ordered that cases be registered against them and also ordered the SHO’s suspension. staff report
