TDCP producing documentaries on Lahore and Punjab

By Shoaib Ahmed

LAHORE: The Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) is producing three documentaries on Lahore and Punjab which will be distributed to Pakistani embassies all over the world to attract tourists, TDCP sources told Daily Times on Tuesday.

Sources said that TDCP would soon make a deal with the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to run the documentaries on PIA’s international flights. The documentaries would also be shown on local TV channels, they said.

They said the TDCP was negotiating with TV channels to run the documentaries as part of its tourism promotion campaign, they said. The sources said that top production houses were producing the documentaries titled ‘Historical monuments of Punjab’, ‘Colours of Punjab’ and ‘Colours of Lahore’, at a cost of Rs 1.5 million. Sarandip Productions, an Islamabad-based company, was producing Historical Monuments of Punjab.

They said that TDCP Managing Director Irfan Ali had asked the Punjab government to hold a conference of international tour operators in Lahore next year to promote tourism in Pakistan.

Sources said the TDCP has planned to build an amusement park, similar to Disneyland, at its Jallo resort at a cost of Rs 150 million. The amusement park would have an open-air theatre, fantasy world, sea world and small playhouses for children, they said.

Ali said that the documentaries were being produced with an aim to attract international tourists to Pakistan. He said PIA and TDCP had developed a mutual understanding to promote tourism in Pakistan.
