Inept principals will be transferred soon: Masood

LAHORE: Once the executive district officers for education are removed, inefficient college heads will be transferred to improve the education system, said Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood.
The reorganisation is part of the government plan to reform education, said Mr Masood while addressing the Punjab University (PU) Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) award ceremony on Monday. Mr Masood said that 34 EDOs were being replaced because of unsatisfactory performance. He said that new staff would be recruited for understaffed colleges in the city through the Punjab Public Service Commission. He said that the chief minister had demanded the hiring of 33,00 school teachers on contract.
The minister said that a committee had been formed to reform education in universities. The committee is headed by PU Vice Chancellor (VC) Lt Gen (r) Arshad Mahmood and will standardise university courses. He stressed on the need to empower women so that mothers could become strong institutions for children. He commended the girls for topping the examinations. The minister awarded Rs 75,000 each to both the first position holders, Rs 65,000 each to the second position holders and Rs 50,000 each to the third position holders of the PU BA/BSc examinations. The PU VC announced that the toppers would be given free education if they chose to continue studying at PU. He announced a Rs 200,000 prize for the PU examination cell for its performance.
