Benazir may return soon

Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: It seems that the days of Benazir’s self imposed exile in London may be over soon. Talking to the Press Trust of India on Friday, PPP leader and National Assembly member Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad revealed that Ms Bhutto’s party “has communicated [to the Pakistani leadership] that she is ready to return home at short notice in order to fill the political vacuum created by Nawaz Sharif’s departure”.

He added that the issue of Ms Bhutto’s return had already been raised in the National Assembly, where the PPP enjoys a “strong influence”, as well has having been discussed directly with President Pervez Musharraf himself. Furthermore, Mr Ahmad said he was confident that Ms Bhutto would not face arrest upon landing on Pakistani soil, saying “there is a law in Pakistan today and PPP leaders expect President Musharraf to respect it.”
