New CM Secretariat to be built in GOR-I

By Anjum Gill

LAHORE: The Punjab government will construct a 5-floor Chief Minister Secretariat, costing Rs 250 million at GOR-1, an official told Daily Times on Saturday.

“Presently the chief minister’s staff operates at four different locations and lack coordination. The locations are 7-Club Road, which is the chief minister’s residence, 1-Club Road, 3-Club Road and 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam,” he said.

The official said none of the premises were large enough to accommodate the entire administrative machinery. “The only place the CM can hold meetings is the Punjab Secretariat,” he said.

“So the idea of a new CM Secretariat was floated at a meeting which was reviewing the extension project of the Punjab Assembly building and MPAs hostel,” he said.

The new secretariat will have a conference hall, a banquet hall and staff rooms, he said. “The CM wants his staff to be efficient. Some times the officers have to wait for a file to be fetched from 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam or the staff there waits for a file to be brought from GOR, which is a wastage of time,” he said.

Another source said that a new banquet hall has also been constructed at the 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, which had yet to be opened. “Lot’s of money has been spent on the new hall and a new building will burden the exchequer,” he said. He asked whether the 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid Azam and offices at the Club Road would be vacated after the construction of a new CM Secretariat.
