WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: The government claimed on Monday to have invited Dr Shazia Khalid, the Sui rape victim, to a regional conference on violence against women here in September, but Dr Khalid said she was unaware of any such event.
Nilofar Bakhtiar, adviser to the prime minister on women’s affairs, told Daily Times that the government would pay for Dr Khalid’s travel and housing expenses and ensure security for her during her stay in Pakistan.
However, contacted by Daily Times in London, Dr Khalid said she had heard nothing about the conference and received no invitation.
