Hajis advised to get computerised NICs
LAHORE: The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) in a press release on Friday advised Haj applicants to apply for computerised national identity cards (CNICs) at the earliest opportunity to avoid inconvenience when Haj documents are issued.
The cabinet decided that 130,000 Pakistanis would go to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage in 2004, but only 20,095 applicants applied for CNICs out of which 13,721 CNICs had been prepared and sent for distribution by NADRA, while remaining applications were being processed urgently and would be sent on time. The Religious Affairs Ministry has received 13,000 applications for Haj. The release said that NADRA is in constant touch with the ministry on behalf of the pilgrim.
NADRA said processing 130,000 CNICs would not be a problem for its network.
NADRA’s 136 High Tech Swift Registration Centres (HTSRCs) have set up separate counters for pilgrimage hopefuls who have submitted their Haj applications. —Staff Report
