Ahmad Mukhtar ECL’s petition delayed

Staff Report

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday postponed hearing of a petition against inclusion of former federal minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar’s name in the exit control list (ECL). The delay was announced till August 18 as the deputy attorney general requested the court for time to file the National Accountability Bureau’s reply to the petition.

Ch Mukhtar told the court that his name was placed on the ECL on former president Farooq Leghari’s directions, and two corruption references were filed against him at Karachi and Lahore.

He said the Sindh High Court has already acquitted him of corruption charges in the first case while the other reference was pending with the Lahore Accountability Court. Ch Mukhtar told the judge that he wants to visit US to meet his children there, but can’t as long as his name is placed on the ECL.
