Rift in PML-QA women’s wing

By Qamar Jabbar

LAHORE: Expressing lack of confidence in the leadership of PML-QA’s Punjab Women Wing President Naseem Lodhi, Party’s Lahore Women Wing President, Memoona Shaheen, and her supporters demanded her removal from the party office.

Memoona and her supporters staged a protest demonstration at the Muslim League House here on Monday and chanted slogans against Ms Lodhi and demanded party elections in the Women Wing after her removal. They also registered their protest with Central President of PML-QA’s Women Wing Nelofer Bakhtiyar and said if Ms Lodhi was not removed they would not bring any female workers to party meetings in future.

Memoona alleged that Ms Lodhi had not conducted any tour of the province to reorganise the women’s wing at the provincial level, she said. She said Ms Lodhi had not given them a single penny from the party coffers for the welfare of the women wing’s Lahore chapter.

While Memoona and her supporters were busy making complaints, Ms Lodhi’s supporters also gathered there and raised slogans against the alleged wrongdoings of Menooma. They accused Ms Memoona of creating a rift in the women wing and hatching a conspiracy against Naseem Lodhi. Both the groups were about to scuffle when PML-QA leaders intervened and stopped them from chanting slogans against each other.

Nelofer Bakhtiyar told Memona that Ms Lodhi was appointed the Punjab Women Wing president with the consent of Ch Pervez Elahi and other senior party leaders and was working hard for the party’s welfare while she (Memona) was violating the party discipline by agitating against Naseem Lodhi.
