PML-QA, MMA seat adjustments after party polls

By Amir Nafees

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League (QA) leadership would meet with the Coordination Committee of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) after the party elections to make seat adjustments with the alliance, sources told PML-QA on Monday.

A PML-QA delegation headed by its provincial leadership would meet the MMA body on August 4, after it chooses PML-QA central president on August 2, sources added. Liaqat Baloch also confirmed that the PML-QA delegation would meet the MMA Coordination Committee on August 4.

Sources said the PML-QA had never been a pro-government party and had only backed the reforms introduced by the government to ensure a democratic setup in the country.

The MMA senior leaders and Chairman of its Coordination Committee Liaquat Baloch had repeatedly said the MMA would never merge into any alliance but its doors were open for other political parties and chances of electoral adjustments with any political or religious party could not be ruled out.

Sources said the PML-QA was confident that it was in a very strong position going into the general elections and was holding talks to with different political parties including the Pakistan Awami Tahreek and the MMA to further consolidate its position.

Army govt failed: President Pakistan Muslim League-QA Mian Muhammad Azhar said on Monday that only a democratic government could solve the problems faced by the masses and the country, and the army government had failed to provide justice and better law and order to the people.

Talking to party leaders at his residence, he said a truly representative government would be formed after the October elections and the army would return to the barracks.

Mian Azhar said the PML-QA elections would further strengthen its democratic base.

He said those political leaders who did not follow democratic procedures within their parties could not do so in the country.

He said the restoration of real democracy was a must for the stability and existence of Pakistan and the PML-QA would continue its efforts in this regard.

Join PML-QA: Former MPA and PPP leader from Multan Rana Sohail Ahmad Noon and Shujabad Tehsil Nazim Rana Qasim Noon joined the PML-QA after a meeting with the party’s Punjab President Ch Pervez Elahi here on Monday. Rana Sohail Noon said Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s behaviour had compelled him to leave the PPP.
