LHC upholds objection to plea for Shahbaz’s recovery
LAHORE: The LHC has dismissed the Pakistan Lawyers Forum’s (PLF) objection petition against the LHC office’s decision to return the PLF’s main plea against the detention of former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif and seeking his production in court. The registrar’s office had returned the main petition on the grounds that the LHC had no territorial jurisdiction because Mr Sharif was abroad. The PLF challenged the return of its main petition through an objection petition, which came up for hearing before LHC Justice Sheikh Abdul Rashid on Tuesday. Mr Dogar referred to some press reports and mainly relied on Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi (PLD 1975 SC 66) to argue that the court could call Mr Sharif back because he was taken into custody and deported from Lahore airport, which is within the territorial jurisdiction of the court. The lawyer and the judge sniped at each other over some points before another lawyer senior counsel Malik Saeed Hassan intervened. staff report
