AG for transfer of Pearl case from Karachi
Staff Report
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court today will hear two applications filed by Sindh’s advocate general, Raja Qureshi, to transfer US journalist Daniel Pearl’s abduction cum murder trial.
Mr Qureshi moved his second case-transfer application in the Sindh High Court on Monday, hoping to transfer the case from Karachi to another city. Mr Qureshi has again stated security reasons, saying that the lives of all — prosecution, judicial members, witnesses and the accused as well — were at risk. He said the case must not continue at the Karachi Central Prison. Raja Qureshi said that even the government departments knew that prosecution members were receiving death threats, and the callers demanded an end to the trail of [prime suspect] Omer Sheikh and his three co-accused. The application will be heard Tuesday, together with his earlier application.
