ISLAMABAD: The government will launch a separate digital TV channel by the end of this year purely for educational purposes.
Speaking at a seminar on Monday organised to highlight the steps taken by the government to promote information technology (IT) and telecommunications in the country, Minister for Science and Technology Ata-ur-Rehman said the government is fully cognizant of the significance of education, particularly IT, to cope with the challenges of new century.
He said the new channel will help impart education to each and every corner of the country. “People from all strata of society will be able to benefit from this channel,” said the minister.
He said the government was also aware of the high fees in private IT education centres and was making the utmost efforts to provide quality education in all disciplines at affordable prices. He said to achieve this end the government has already established 31 public sector universities in the country.
