Pak ship rescues 367 tourists in Maldives
WASHINGTON: Helicopters and personnel of Pakistan Navy Ship Nasar rescued 367 tourists trapped on an island in the Maldives by the giant Indian Ocean tsunami.
Speaking to a private news channel on Wednesday, Commodore Asif Sandila said that the PNS Nasar had arrived in the Maldives on December 25 and was docked at a jetty as the giant waves triggered by an earthquake in the ocean submerged several islands in the low-lying Maldives. He said he contacted the Pakistan high commissioner and offered the ship’s services in rescue efforts. app
