69 candidates file papers for LBA polls on January 15

LAHORE: Elections of the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) for the term of 2005-06 will be held on January 15 and 69 lawyers filed their nomination papers on Wednesday (the last day). The LBA is considered a premier bar in Asia.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held tomorrow (December 31) while nomination papers can be withdrawn until January 3. There will be a one-on-one contest between Chaudhry Naeem and Tasawar Qureshi, for the LBA president slot.
Tariq Riaz, Muhammad Munir Chaudhry, Irshad Ahmad and Abbas Ali Sindhu will contest for the two seats of senior vice president and vice president (VP). The candidate who will secure maximum votes will be declared senior VP while the runners-up will be declared the VP. Gulfam Rana and Mirza Khalid Javed Baig will contest the Model Town VP seat.
Four candidates Naveed Aslam, Rao Samiuddin Ahmad, GA Khan Tariq and Muhammad Khalid will contest for the seat of secretary.
Shabana Nadeem, Malik Naveed Akbar and Shaikh Zulfiqar Haider filed papers for the office of joint secretary while Chaudhry Asif, Aziz A Bhatti and Iqbal Butt filed papers for the seat of finance secretary. Shaukat Ali Kalyar, Sharfat Khan, Malik Irshad Ahmad and Ali Hussain Awan will contest for the seat of library secretary.
Forty three candidates filed their nomination papers for 10 seats of the executive body while three candidates are in the run for three Model Town seats.
