WAPDA workers protest privatisation
Staff Report
LAHORE: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority’s Hydro Electric Central Labour Union staged a protest on Wednesday against the privatisation of WAPDA distribution and power generation companies.
The union took out a rally on Nisbat Road, which culminated at the Royal Park. Workers shouted slogans against the privatisation of the authority and demanded that the authority safeguard their jobs, as there were rumors that privatisation would leave thousands unemployed. Khurshid Ahmed, the union’s general secretary, told the workers that the union was struggling for their rights. He warned the union would resist any move aimed to exploit workers.
