Opp boycotts Senate over stopping MPs
By Shaukat Piracha
ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties in the Senate on Monday boycotted the house proceedings to protest the sealing of parliament during the Sunday night session when the National Assembly was having a second reading of the proposed 17th Constitution Amendment Bill.
Pakhtun Khwa Milli Awami Party Senator Raza Muhammad Raza, on a point of order, elaborated that when the National Assembly was having a second reading of the proposed bill on Sunday, the government sealed Parliament House and nobody was allowed to move into or out of the Parliament building.
He said, “The government committed a violation of the privilege of the house and all the parliamentarians, journalists, women and other visitors were detained.” Despite reminders from the Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro that the National Assembly speaker had set a committee to deal with the matter, Mr Raza continued to criticise the government.
