‘PPPP would prefer to form govt’
Staff Report
LAHORE: Raza Rabbani, Acting Secretary General of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian on Tuesday has said the party still preferred to form the government at the center, but would sit in the opposition if it could not achieve that ambition.
Addressing a luncheon hosted by Qasim Zia at his residence in honour of the PPPP’s newly elected MPAs from Punjab, Mr Rabbani said party chairperson Benazir Bhutto had given go ahead to Makhdoom Amin Fahim, to contact all the political parties, having representation in the National Assembly for forming a national government.
He said the PPPP, being the second largest party in the National Assembly, had the right to form the government at the centre.
To a question about the ARD and its future, he said Mr Fahim was apprising Nawabzada Nasrullah about every development and the PPPP would strictly follow the ARD policies.
To another query about PPPP-MMA relationship, he said the PPPP had always differed with MMA’s foreign policy and ideology, but at the same time both parties had the same views on the supremacy of parliament and the constitution. He said the government should immediately summon the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies to put the country on the path to democracy.
He said the government might change the floor-crossing law to facilitate a particular party.
On the occasion, Punjab PPPP President Qasim Zia said anti-PPPP elements were trying to disturb the party ranks by spreading baseless rumors about the formation of the forward bloc in the National Assembly.
