EC to notify Senators’ names
By Muhammad Kamran
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission (EC) would notify the names of returned candidates of the Senate elections in its official gazette on March 5 after it received the receipt of returns of the expenses from the winners.
“The Senate session cannot be summoned unless the EC issues the official gazette of the returned candidates. Hence, the Senate session is not likely this week,” an official told Daily Times.
The first session of Parliament’s upper house would be convened to administer oath to the newly elected members.
Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hassan Khan said the names of the returned candidates would not be published if they failed to submit the returns of their election expenses to the Returning Officer (RO) within five days from the election in the prescribed form available with the ROs.
The EC sought a statement of all payments made by the contesting candidates together with all the bills and receipts, a statement of all disputed claims, a statement of all unpaid claims and a statement of all money, securities or equivalent of money received from any person for the purpose of election expenses specifying the name of every such person.
