Re-polling ordered at 3 union councils

KASUR: District Returning Officer Muhammad Ashraf Bhatti has ordered re-polling in four polling stations of three union councils in the district.

The re-polling will be held on August 31 and a formal notification has also been issued to the returning officers of concerned. According to DRO’s order, the re-polling would be held at polling station No 533 of UC-34 Hindal, polling station No 544 of UC-35 Cheena Aarala and polling stations No 1041 and 1043 of UC- 71 Badhana.

Asad Ali and Ishaq, candidates for nazim and naib nazim of UC Hindal allegedly made the polling staff hostage and cast bogus votes. They also took away some ballot boxes. In UC-35 Cheena Aarala, Khalil-ur-Rehman and 20 other people entered the polling station and snatched ballot papers, stamps and other materials and fled away.

Maratib Ali, candidate for Nazim and his accomplices allegedly snatched polling boxes, ballot papers and other materials from the presiding officer Muhammad Ashraf at UC-71 Badhana.

Police have registered separate cases and arrested Razzaq, Afzal, Khalil-ur-Rehman, Mukhtair Ahmed, Ghulam Nabi and Tahir while raids are being conducted to apprehend the remaining accused. app
