All major terrorists arrested, says ISPR chief

By Shahzad Raza

CHARAT: Security forces have made a major breakthrough in the ongoing war on terrorism as all the terrorists involved in major subversive acts have been arrested.

This was said by ISPR Director General Major General Shaukat Sultan and General Officer Commanding, Special Services Group, Major General Faisal Alvi while briefing a group of mediapersons, who visited the SSG Headquarters here Saturday.

Direct General of the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan said that the Pakistan army had destroyed most of the militants’ strongholds. However, he added that a two-pronged strategy was required to deal with the tactical and the strategic aspects of terrorism.

He said that terrorism was a global phenomenon and that the international community needed to coordinate its efforts to eliminate the menace. He said the roots of terrorist networks must be cut down. He said that President Musharraf’s vision of ‘enlightened moderation’ was the right thing for the nation. He said that Pakistan’s role as a frontline state in the war on terror was recognised globally.

He also appreciated Pakistani security forces for carrying out successful operations to round up terrorists. He said Pakistan had made significant contribution to the daunting task of curbing international terrorism.

Two soldiers from the Special Services Group (SSG) died in five different operations against suspected terrorists in the tribal areas.

General Commanding Officer of the SSG Faisal Alvi told journalists at the SSG headquarters, said that the army had decided to increase the number of commandoes involved in the war on terror. A visit of foreign and national journalists was organised to demonstrate the commandoes’ skills in various forms of combat, para-trooping and emergency operations on Saturday.
