ARD slams Shaukat Aziz’s election
Staff Report
PESHAWAR: Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, central secretary general of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD), has said the election of Shaukat Aziz as prime minister was a continuation of the “fake, illegal, unconstitutional and immoral system.”
“The establishment has made politics a puppetry show and the status of parliament is nothing more than a rubber stamp,” said Mr Jhagra. He added that the removal of two prime ministers within 45 days and the “fake election” of the third was shameful.
Mr Jhagra said the country was up in flames from Karachi to Wana and unemployment and inflammation had made the lives of the citizens miserable. Pakistan has virtually become an American colony, he added. “An American viceroy is being imposed on the nation in the shape of Shaukat Aziz,” he said. He added that Pakistan was faced with a situation worst than 1971 because the government considered “guns and baton-charge” as the solution to every problem. He said that the National Assembly speaker had made evident his bias by not issuing production orders for Javed Hashmi which was a clear violation of the democratic norms.
Mr Jhagra said that Mr Hashmi had united the ARD and strengthened democracy. He added that the alliance would further organise the movement for the revival of democracy.
