PML for broad-based political process
By Ibrahim Shahid
GILGIT: The Pakistan Muslim League (PML) would initiate a broad-based and sustained political process in the Northern Areas (NA), Sardar Yusuf, Iqbal Dar and Fauzia Salim Abbas, PML parliamentary board members for the NALC elections, told Daily Times.
They said the PML would streamline the political leadership to rid the region of narrow sectarian-oriented politics.
PML parliamentary board members said they had held negotiations with different political parties and groups in Gilgit for new political activity that would be directed towards a modern Pakistan and would be in line with the policies of President General Pervez Musharraf.
“We have held meetings with women’s groups and were impressed to see the talent in them and their demand for increased seats for women in the NALC is genuine and worth considering”, said Fauzia Abbas. Replying to a question, Mr Dar said that he had come to Gilgit in connection with the party’s restructuring and selection of candidates for the upcoming NALC elections.
The PML leaders said they were well aware of the constitutional status of the region and they believed that the problems, including constitutional deprivation, would gradually be sorted out.
